Legal
Privacy policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
This policy explains what COMPANY-LEGAL-NAME (COMPANY-REGISTERED-ADDRESS, company number COMPANY-NUMBER) does with personal data. It is written in three parts, because three different things are often confused: this website, the software, and our dealings with you as a customer.
1. This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds nothing from a third party, and has no sign-up form. Nothing you do here is tracked, profiled or shared, and we build no record of your visit.
The one thing stored in your browser is your choice of light or dark appearance, kept in local storage on your own device. It never leaves your browser and we never see it. Clearing your site data removes it.
Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, which include visitors' IP addresses, for a short period and for the purpose of operating and securing the service. We do not use those logs to identify or profile visitors.
If you later buy a licence, the checkout window is provided by our payment provider and does set cookies, which are necessary for the payment to work. That window is covered by the provider's own privacy notice, which is shown within it.
2. The software
UplinkOps runs on your server and the data it collects stays there. We receive no telemetry, no usage statistics, no inventory, no reports and no error traces. The software does not contact us at all — not to check a licence, not to look for updates, not to report a crash. We could not retrieve your data if we wanted to, because there is no channel over which to do it.
That means, for the purposes of data protection law, that you are the controller of everything UplinkOps collects about your machines and the people who use them, and we are not a processor of it. Two consequences worth stating plainly:
- You do not need a data processing agreement with us in order to use the software, because no personal data is transferred to us.
- Whether the collection the software performs is lawful in your organisation — for instance, which optional collectors you enable, how long you keep history, and what you tell your staff — is a decision for you. Several of the more sensitive collectors are off until you switch them on.
If you send us a log file, a screenshot, a database extract or a report to help us investigate a problem, that is you choosing to share it. We use it only to investigate the issue you raised, and delete it when the issue is closed.
3. When you contact or buy from us
Here we do hold personal data. Specifically:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, e-mail address and company, from your message | To answer you and to provide support — performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in replying to an enquiry | While you are a customer, then 2 years |
| Your company's billing details and the record of what you bought | To issue the licence and to meet accounting and tax obligations — legal obligation | As required by accounting law, typically 10 years |
| The fingerprint of your installation's certificate authority | To issue a licence that only your installation accepts — performance of a contract | While the licence is valid, then 2 years |
| Support correspondence and ticket history | To handle your request and to see the history of a recurring problem — performance of a contract | 3 years from closure |
The installation fingerprint is a cryptographic hash. It identifies your installation and nothing else — it carries no information about your machines, your network or your staff.
4. Who else sees it
We use a small number of suppliers, and only these:
- Our payment provider, which acts as merchant of record for sales. It collects and holds your billing and payment details, issues the invoice and handles sales tax. We never receive or store your card details.
- Our e-mail provider, which carries correspondence between us.
- Our hosting provider, which serves this website.
- Our accountant, for the statutory records.
We do not sell personal data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to train anything.
5. Your rights
You may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to our processing of it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to CONTACT-EMAIL and we will answer within 30 days. Some data we must keep for a statutory period — invoices in particular — and we will say so if that applies.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you may complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
Note that requests about data held inside your own UplinkOps installation have to be handled by you, not by us; see section 2.
6. Security incidents
To report a security problem in the software or on this site, write to SECURITY-EMAIL. We will acknowledge within three business days and tell you what we intend to do. We will not pursue anyone who reports a genuine issue to us in good faith and gives us reasonable time to fix it.
7. Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. If a change is significant and you are a current customer, we will tell you by e-mail.
